SocialChamp, a startup providing social media management tools, was declared the winner of a startup pitch competition held at the two-day Momentum Conference in Karachi this week.
The first runner up was CampusFeed. It offers an online platform to college and university students to share news related to their campuses. The second runner up, Nearpeer, provides online assistance for courses offered at various private colleges in the country.
SocialChamp has been incubated at NEST, an incubator managed by the Pakistan Software Houses Association (PASHA); CampusFeed and Nearpeer at Plan9 of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).
The winner was given cash prize of Rs1 million, the first runner up Rs700,000 and the second runner up Rs300,000.
With SocialChamp, one can schedule posts to their various social media profiles alongside getting a host of additional features. The free-of-charge basic package provides these services for two social media profiles. For those needing to manage profiles in bulk, SocialChamp offers three payment plans.
CampusFeed lets students share news and views anonymously just with their campus community. Fow now, it is available only at the Lahore University of Management Sciences but plans to expand to other campuses across the country in coming months.
Nearpeer’s portal lets senior year students offer online assistance for various courses offered at their colleges and universities. In the coming days, the startup plans to make assistance for college and university courses free of charge. It will, nonetheless, charge a fee to those seeking assistance with O- and A- level courses and chartered accountancy certificates.
Momentum is an annual startup conference and exhibition that attracts investors, business leaders, technology executives, startup founders and academia. The two-day event featured motivational speeches from experts who shared their own success stories and highlighted new trends in entrepreneurship. PITB chairman Dr Umar Saif’s keynote address was on ‘Why is Innovation Important for Pakistan’.
Amongst the 180 startups in the competition, 24 were from Plan9. Besides CampusFeed and Nearpeer, these included Gesdrive, Freightix, DIY Geeks, Azauj, Capital Stake, XGear, Affordable.pk, Euphoria, Baby Planet, Axis Communications, Cart99, Legal Nexus, Mapalytics, Qayaam, Neurostic, Dastaan, Car Butlers, Car Chabi, Justprice.pk, Uninama, Clique and Emoey.
