Both Pakistani teams participating in the final round of the Huawei Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Competition 2018 secured a place in the top three positions in two separate categories.
The final round of the competition, held in Shenzhen, China, on May 15 and 16, was fought among teams from 23 countries comprising 69 students.
The Pakistani team that stood second in the Network Group comprised Shamim Iqbal from Virtual University, Lahore; Shariq Malik from Lahore Garrison University; and Ayyaz Ahmad from University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore. The students were mentored by Kashif Hussain from Corvit Networks. The team also won an admission award at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTC) in Shenzhen for a six-month program and scholarship.
The team that stood third in the Enterprise Cloud Communication category comprised Muhammad Noor Malik from the National University of Science and Technology, Islamabad; and, Fatima Rashid and Muhammad Zubair from UET Lahore. The team was mentored by UET Lahore’s Fahmeed Akram.
Separately, Akram received the Excellent Instructor Award and UET Lahore won the Excellent Huawei Academy Award.
In a statement, Ma Yue, the vice president of Huawei Enterprise, praised the hard work of the participants and their mentors. He observed that ‘digital transformation’ was the only way for companies to seek breakthroughs and push for innovation in the current era.
The statement added that the contest was not only a platform for competitive exchange among students from across the globe but also an occasion to discuss the latest ICT technologies and products and to understand trends in the industry.
