by Saad Ayub

A team from the Lahore Grammar School, Johar Town (LGS-JT) Senior Boys Branch was recently declared winners of the International Regional Space Settlement Design Competition (IRSSDC), held at the Kennedy Space Center, in Orlando, Florida.

The students were part of a larger group and worked with other students from the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

In total, 19 teams from 13 different countries participated in the competition.

LGS-JT qualified for the final competition in Florida, after becoming finalists in the Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition (ARSSDC) held in Gurgaon, India earlier this year.

According to the competition’s website, ‘the contest puts high school students in the shoes of aerospace industry engineers designing a city in space that will be a home for over 10,000 people. Each year the competition organizers develop a new design scenario with its own special requirements. Contest teams then work together to create a 40 page report that addresses the issues and communicates their designs and ideas.’

LGS-JT has previously participated in the ISSDC competition, but this is the first time that they have been able to secure a victory.
