Pakistan has signed an MoU with Ukraine for the upgradation of 200 Al Khalid Tanks, with Ukraine providing the engines for the tanks.
The Al Khalid is Pakistan’s main battle tank that was formed after a collaboration between Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) of Pakistan and China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO) in the early 1990’s.
The agreement was signed by Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Defence Production and his Ukrainian counterpart.
Rana Tanveer Hussain said that Pakistan’s defence industry had maintained high quality standards that have been recognized all across the world and these agreements would serve to further strengthen the country. “We are also working hard to improve our defence industry’s capabilities,” he added.
13 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) have already been signed in the first two days of the four-day International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2016.
Another MoU was signed between STI Pakistan and Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) Kamra for the development of simulation of “Super Mushak”. Pakistan also signed an agreement to provide 52 trainer Mushshak aircrafts to Turkey. Other MoUs were also signed between Pakistan Ordinance Factory (POF) and M/s Czechoslovak Group; between POF and M/s Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A (PGZ) Co. of Poland; and between POF and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence Industry.
