Apple has unveiled iPhone X, the 10th anniversary iPhone. The latest iPhone was presented during the keynote address at Apple Park’s Steve Jobs Theatre in California. The company also showcased the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, as well as an upgraded Apple Watch and 4K Apple TV on this occasion.

Apple CEO Tim Cook introduced the smartphone using the “one more thing” format favored by former CEO Steve Jobs to surprise the audience during the keynote. Known as “iPhone 10”, the highly anticipated phone is made of “surgical grade” stainless steel with glass on the front and back panel. The glossy design also comes with an all-new Super Retina OLED display from edge to edge.

The Home button has been replaced by an upward swiping motion. The Touch ID has been substituted by a facial recognition feature called Face ID that can be used to unlock the phone when a user looks at it.

Face ID uses an array of sensors on the front of the device that makes a 3D map of the user’s face and can even recognize it in the dark with the help of a flood illuminator.  iPhone X has a new, powerful A11 Bionic processor which supports a neural engine to process face recognition in real time.

The company claims that Face ID is much more secure than Touch ID and there is only a 1 in 1,000,000 chance of another person looking at the phone and being able to unlock it.

The iPhone X has dual 12-megapixel rear cameras, and comes with dual optical image stabilization. The main camera has an f/1.8 aperture and the telephoto lens has an f/2.4 aperture. Apple claims the new sensors are larger and faster compared to older generations. The smartphone also offers 4K video recording and stereo speakers for better audio playback.

Moreover, the new iPhone also supports wireless charging. Apple has announced a wireless charging pad called AirPower that supports multi-device charging at the same time. The company has said that the charging mat will be available from 2018.

With a hefty price tag of $1000, iPhone X is water and dust resistant, and available in two colors: space grey and silver. The smartphone can be pre-ordered on October 27 and will be available on November 3.
