Pakistan’s premier defence exhibition, IDEAS, has gotten underway at the Expo Center in Karachi. The four day event will showcase Pakistan’s latest military hardware and related technology including the battle tank Al Khalid, JF-17 Thunder, Super Mushshak, K-8 aircraft, Fast Attack Craft Missile boats, and armored personnel carriers.
261 firms from 34 countries are showcasing their latest technological innovations at the exhibition as well. 90 delegations representing 43 countries are also present at the event. Some of these delegations are headed by senior defense officials, and ministers of the respective countries.
The Chinese and Turkish delegations have been given separate pavilions to exhibit their military equipment. Three Russian exhibitors are also present at the event as opposed to only one compared to the last exhibition in 2014. Russia Rosoboronexport, the Russian state-controlled arms’ import and export firm, is attending this year’s event as well.

Nine countries including Poland, Luxembourg, Denmark, Belarus, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Belgium, Nigeria, and Romania are participating in the exhibition for the first time.
The International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2016 was inaugurated earlier today by Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif. Other attendees included the Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Naval Chief Admiral Zakaullah and NSA Nasir Janjua.
